Hi - I just joined your little tribe here. I read a lot. (Proud to say I do not own a TV.)

Now reading 'Anna Karenina' now. And a book called "Orality and Literacy' by Walter Ong.

Cheers! ./bc

  • I will be the first to say Welcome Betty!!
I hope that you enjoy our little tribe!

I am currently reading The Wayfarer Redemption(6 book series) by Sara Douglass and To reign in Hell by Steven Brust.

All are exceptional books and I highly recommend them to anyone that enjoys reading.

Live simply, so that others may simply live...

    Peace

  • Hi Betty and Birkie... so glad to see both of you here. I am currently reading a bunch of books and articles about prostitution in the US and abroad. I live in Vegas, and there has been talk about legalizing prostitution within Clark County (where Vegas is seated). I plan on writing an article about the legalization process and the non-apparent pitfalls if it is not done correctly.

Before I embarked on this process, I was reading "Madam Secretary," Madeleine Albright's memoirs. It was an excellent read.
  • Wasn't Walter Ong a mentor to Marshall McLuhan? On that basis have been curious to see what the connection between Orality and Literacy there might be and The Gutenberg Galaxy.

Welcome! I'm newish myself. (Joined last month.) I just finished Francesca Lia Block's _The Rose and the Beast_ and am gradually plugging my way through Michel Faber's _The Crimson Petal and the White_.
  • I've been here lurking for a while...I've currently finished reading Gardner's Art Through The Ages. Go Me.
    • hi there. me too.
i usually dont get as much time for reading as I used to (sigh), but I have to take a bibliovacation every once in awhile. i don't have a TV (have never paid for one) but lotsa books.

currently rereading Stranger in a Strange Land, because I recommended it to somebody, who hated it (first time Ive gotten *that* reaction) and I'm looking to see what was so vile to her and/or what was so redeeming to me. I think I'm succeeding at both missions.
